Round 12 V NNWU

Well, it certainly was music to the ears – hearing the song sung three times last Saturday, with three impressive victories on the footy field. There were also great wins from the A and B graders on the courts. Well done to all players. With two thirds of the season gone, there are three or four sides pushing for finals action, so make sure you get out and support them. Off the field, keep the following in mind:

This Saturday Night : Make the (long) trip back to the Swan Hill Club for tea

Next Week:  After home game, back to Boga Pub for tea and belt out some tunes at the Karaoke Night.

9th August: Goods and Services Auction – this is the major fundraiser for the club, so make sure you see Gaddo or Downsy if you would like to put an item up.

Our colts had a massive confidence booster against the Dees, keeping Nyah goalless and kicking 26 themselves. This included Sammy Griffiths with a bag of 10 and Jake Haeusler with a lazy 8. Although the boys are up against it to play finals, they can definitely shape the five and should be aiming to pinch a win against the Saints today. Awards last week went to Scotty Harris (Heil Builders), Ricky McDiarmid (Keighran’s Milk Bar), Ryan McAllister (Wiseman’s Plumbing), Adam Hepburn (KFC), Andrew Bennett (Mallee Milk), and Jake Haeusler (Red Rooster).

The twos came out firing and showed what they are capable of in the first quarter. There was some attractive football displayed, with run and handball (that’s right – handball in the twos) allowing the boys to pile on seven goals to one in the first quarter. Everyone tried to get a goal in the last term – special mention to Adam Kelly for his dazzling soccer skills in the goal-square – and we piled on 6.6 to finish with a 110 point win. Awards went to Joel Murphy (Federal Hotel), Benny Matthews (Tripodi & Taverna), Brad Kelly (Swan Hill Club), Joey Murphy (Boga Pub), Ross Rohde (Club Voucher), Karl Robertson (Caltex Star) and Terry Dewhurst.

In freezing conditions, the seniors booted 5.8 to no score in the opening term and never looked back. While the game never reached any dazzling heights, you can never complain about a 55 point win – can you Gaddo?! Perhaps Gaddo was complaining because Harro’s soccered behind at the siren cost him $100 in the margin raffle!! Chin up Paul. Also good to see Matty Harrop make a solid return from injury, and we hope to see the same from Big Wes, Little Wes and Hair Less either today or in the next fortnight. Awards went to Chainsaw Lonergan (Swan Hill Taxi), Heath Dunstan (R&K Dunstone Fuel), Honka Harrison (Swan Hill Club), Clifford Ryan (Federal Hotel), Bluey Forsyth (Caltex), Ricky Jochinke (Quo Vadis) and Adam Quigley (Boga Pub).

Netball

On Saturday we took on the Nyah girls at home in very wintery conditions. I’m sure all the girls were just waiting for that first snowflake to drop! We did only come away with 2 wins for the day but there was plenty of impressive, high pressured and physical netball to watch.  There was also plenty of injury time used and some serious injuries had by some of our girls. We wish Nikki Taylor a speedy recovery after she tore her calf in the last quarter and spent the weekend in hospital, and to Amy McElgunn who had to leave the court due to a nasty ankle injury. Rest up girls, we need you!

13 and Under  -  Lake Boga 17 NNWU 21 – O’Grady Engineering Glass award: Bridget Donohue, Ladies Committee: Caelah Siebert, Red Rooster: Aleisha Taylor, Subway Award: Samantha Taverna. These girls are getting better and better each week, and it’s a real pleasure to see how far they’ve come. Coach Harrop should be proud!

15 and Under  - Lake Boga 12 NNWU 32 – Harvey Norman Glass award: Erin Scown, Top Knot Hair award: Brodie Parsons, Red Rooster award: Demi Nolan, Subway award: Emily Lambert. In the 15’s our netballers came up against quality opposition but just couldn’t notch up another win. It was a terrible day for goalies which seemed to be the biggest challenge. Keep going girls, you can do it again!

17 and Under  - Lake Boga 19 NNWU 34 – Lateral Communications Glass award: Katie Kirk, Top Knot Hair award: Nicola Pye, Red Rooster award: Tennille Kelly, Video Ezy award: Erin Noorbergen. The 17’s started off well but were overrun by the Dees in the end.

C Grade - Lake Boga 33 NNWU 37 – WET Technologies Glass award: Karen Rovere, WFI Mystery award: Jenna Taverna, Top Knot Hair Award: Tamika Lynas.  With their second loss for the season it looks like the Nyah girls might be our ‘boogie’ side! I’m sure Coach Taverna sees this as a small hiccup and will only make her team stronger and prepared to take it to them in the finals.

B Grade – Lake Boga 38 NNWU 30 – Neville Pest Control Glass award: Mrs. Stephanie Kennedy, Evoke Hair Studio award: Felicity Till. It’s great to see these girls back on track. Coach Palmer led by example on the court and will be stopping at nothing now to get her girls into the five.

A Grade - Lake Boga 44 NNWU 40 – Fred and Gayle Glass award: Ang Marra, LBFNC Sports Bar award: Sandra Ewart and Lisa Ryan. What a game! This was a game our girls had to win. They put everything on the line, especially their bodies, and came away with probably one of the most thrilling victories we’ve seen this year. These girls were not going to let this one get away! Coach Pye has her team working nicely now, however they will have to win just about every game to get into the five. Let’s get behind these girls and help them home.

Some tough games today against the Tooley-Tang girls. Good luck girls and Go Boga!
