Round 3: Balranald vs Lake Boga
Welcome back to Boga folks and doesn’t it feel good having just knocked off the Roos on their home turf! Was also good to see a few sticking around at Kyalite last week, hinting there should be plenty of numbers for the upcoming functions, which are now proudly displayed in the rooms and on this site. So check the social calendar out and mark a few dates in your diary.
This week we are back to the Boga Pub for dinner and to watch the Big V smash the All Stars on the big screen. Don’t forget next week’s game is on Sunday at Lalbert followed by tea at the Swan Hill Club. For those interested, the good Catholics (Fr Gray and Br Harrison) will be holding mass on Thursday after training, so as not to miss out due to football on Sunday. God bless.
Seniors
How sweet it was for the ones to finally knock off Balranald – first time for a few players I’d say. Well done to Wes Harrison (Quo Vadis) who has found his place in the backline beside Nathan Quick (Swan Hill Club), as well as Trent Collins (Caltex), Cliffy Ryan (Swan Hill Taxi) and Willy Watson (Boga Pub). Another good game also from coach Matt Fleming (Federal Hotel) although apparently Harro wants to know how many turtles had to be ‘necked’ to make that sweater he was sporting at Kyalite.
Reserves
The twos once again found the trip north a bit much of a challenge coming up against an ‘experienced’ Roos side (must be ‘experienced if Gaddo reckons he played against most of them). Well done to Robbie Baulch (Tripodi & Taverna) for a great game as well as Brett Davies (Federal Hotel), Ben Matthews (Swan Hill Club), Jordy Burke (Club Award), Karl Robertson (Boga Pub) and Terry Dewhurst (Caltex Star). Thanks also to the colts boys who stepped up to play two games.
Colts
The thirds had a couple of good patches, but could not string it together for the four quarters. No doubt Mick has had them putting in on the track this week and the boys will be out to knock off their old foes the puppy-dogs today. Good luck boys. Awards from Balranald went to Sam Griffiths, Jake Haeusler (Heil Builders), Andrew Patterson (Keighran’s Milk Bar), Rhys Bull (KFC), Jacob Fifita (Mallee Milk), Darren Scown (Wiseman’s Plumbing).
Netball
We ventured to Balranald where our girls came away with 3 out of 5 wins. B Grade had the pleasure of a week off as the Roos have no B Grade side. Congratulations to Coach Harrop and the Under 13 girls, who had their first win for the season, and they did it fairly easy too! There were some big smiles around the court and all well deserved. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the 15 and Under girls, as luck was not on their side. The girls fought hard and came close but Balranald were too strong in the end. Keep fighting girls!
In the 17 and Under game the girls shone through and came away with the points and their first win for the year. In Coach Taylor’s absence, Jenna T took charge and supported the girls all the way. Well done, a great team effort girls, let’s do it again!
The C Graders started off slow but were never in any trouble. With a few serious injuries hitting them last week, it was great to see some younger girls step up to the challenge. Well done to Chivonne Pye and Dani Daly for putting in a top effort across the court and down in goals a special mention to Kaly Moore and Tamika Lynas who are getting it together nicely, however it wasn’t really appropriate for them to practice their shooting and rebounding skills during the game!
The A Grade game saw some highs, lows and a little disappointment. The girls had this game up until the last 60 seconds, where some bad luck saw the Roos take the points. It was a tight contest across the court and especially in the ring. I see this as just a little set-back girls, put it behind you and kick some butt.
