Joel Murphy
Name: Joel Murphy
Nick name (s): Murph, Mr Murphy
Born: 17/5/81
Profession: Phys Ed and Maths Teacher at Mackillop
Premierships: Under 16’s and Under 18’s in Portland, Ressies at Lexton, Seniors yet to come….
Career highlight: Ressies flag at Lexton! (Only because we finished 5th and went through to beat Rokewood in the GF, who hadn’t lost a game for 2 years). Closely followed by kicking 9 in the twos at Boga last year!
Most admired player: James Hird – you’d want your son to be like him and your daughter to marry him – and he could play a bit too! A bit like Mick Dedini…..
Favourite AFL Club: The Mighty Bombers. On track for a flag (in 2014)
My look alike: Eddie Murphy (I tell people we’re related anyway)
On a road trip I would take: Jayden Leskie (the ‘esky’, that is)
Most prized possession: Jimmy Hird memorabilia, U2 concert T shirt and photos from Thailand (good blokes, good times)
Favourite Drink: Icy cold Corona on a hot day
If I could be anyone in the world it would be: Pat Pong, Bangkok. I will never look at table tennis the same way.
Best Movie: (The first 5 minutes of) Harlem Nights
If I could star in my own TV show what would it be about: Summer Heights High starring Mr Murphy.
Favourite Singer/Band: U2. Best concert ever. Been around longer than I have and still good. Enough said.
Sporting dream (non-football): Walking up the 18th hole at St Andrews in a play-off with T. Woods, nailing a 60 footer and walking away with the trophy and the jacket!
Best spot to relax: In the backyard this summer. Quick dip in the pool, then sippin a couple of frothies next to the barbie under the new pergola (thanks to Ayso and Lehmo!)
Brush with fame: Walked past Steven Bradbury at the airport one day. Australia’s first Winter Olympics Gold medallist. In the presence of sporting royalty.
Personal Motto: Stress less
Good luck charm: You make your own luck (although I did where the same of pair of jocks every game of footy for six years – does that count?)
Best buy: Two tailored suits and shirts for 10,000 baht (under $300) in Phuket – and we got free beer while we waited!
Worst mistake: Withdrew $100 from the ATM the other day, collected my card and walked away – without the cash.
Cannot live without: A shower in the morning
Preferred pet: Not a dog. Dogs and I have an agreement. I don’t like them and they don’t like me. It’s a fact – deal with it.
Favourite song: It’s Tricky – Run DMC. My Sing Star specialty.
Favourite form of exercise: A session at ‘The Gym Club’. Followed by a session at 42 Coronation.
