  Once in a lifetime training exercise - Pre-season 2003

Owing to the severe drought in 2002, very little water was available for what are termed recreational lakes. Lake Boga falls into this category. Despite intense lobbying by local groups, politicians and other interested parties, it seemed that the lake was destined to completely dry up.

Following a meeting between the Lake Boga Development Committee and Goulburn-Murray Water, G-M Water agreed to allow a flow of water into the lake.

There was a steady stream of cars arriving at the outfall on Tuesday 2nd September as stunned locals drove around to confirm for themselves the rumour that quickly swept through the township.

Fortunately enough water was available to fill the lake to a level not seen for the past seven to eight years.

One exercise undertaken as part of pre-season training involved crossing the lake from east to west. It was a rare opportunity to do so.

The players who took part would certainly be glad of that. It turned out to be a grueling test of both strength and endurance.
