Congratulations to our C Grade Netballers - Grandfinalists 2008
A big congratulations to the Lake Boga C grade netball team, who comfortably defeated top of the ladder NNWU on the weekend to book a place in the CMNL Grand Final. Impressive defensive pressure in the backline by Michelle and Jenna Taverna led a great team effort, with the ball being worked beautifully down the court for high percentage goaling by Kaly Moore and Tamika Lynas.
Coach Michelle Taverna had more reason to smile last night when she was voted C grade Central Murray Netball League Best and Fairest at the annual vote count held at Murray Downs. Congratulations Michelle!! A fabulous year so far, let’s hope the girls can finish it off!
The C graders will be training the next two Thursday nights at 6pm at the Lake Boga Netball courts. Any Lake Boga fans, male and female, are urged to attend and show their support as we head toward the clubs first grand final appearance in five years.
Go Boga!
Other Netball Club news
The club would like to congratulate Renee Smithers, who was awarded the Rookie Umpire award at the recent Central Murray Netball League vote count. Renee has voluntarily umpired the junior netballers each week for the past two seasons, and is also a member of the C grade team playing in the grand final on Saturday 20th September. Well done! Yet another feather in the cap for the C grade team.
In more baby news, 2007 A grade player Noni Domaille gave birth to her first child, a daughter, Audrey Kathleen, born yesterday weighing 7pd 1oz. Congratulations Noni and Renee!
It would be great if all club supporters could get along to training next Thursday night to show your support to the C grade girls in their final training session before the big day. Rosie Taverna is going to be cooking up a storm, black and white streamers will be filling the club rooms, and Leihmo will be trying on his boga lycra dress before his appearance at the game on Saturday. Hope to see you all there!
Go Boga!
Lake Boga 2008 Pesentation night
What a great finish to the season it was last week. While the Demons and the Dogs did not do the right thing by us and help our seniors into the five, we did manage to finish off with 3 wins for the day. We had all-sorts too, with a massive 23 goal win to the colts, a 1 point victory to the reserves and a come from behind 14 point win to the ones. Well done to all footballers and while there is no finals action, the wins certainly set the scene for a fun night last Saturday. On that note, congratulations to the following Best and Fairest winners:
Seniors: Wes Harrison (Runner-Up ‘Brett’ Forsyth). Well done to Harro, who has been the bridesmaid more than once but got his nose in front on this occasion. A very deserved and popular winner, good on ya Des!
Reserves: Karl Robertson (Runner-Up Terry Dewhurst). Snake has juggled footy with work all year and was a huge influence on the twos’ chances of winning each week.
Colts: Toby O’Grady (Runner-Up Josh Cameron) Both of these boys have been stand outs in the colts as well as holding their own in the seniors when given a chance. Let’s hope they stick around for years to come.
On top of these, congratulations to all trophy winners in all grades and thanks to the generous people who donated those trophies and awards.
We should also take this opportunity to thank our generous sponsors who have supplied the weekly awards to our footballers throughout the season. They are much appreciated by the players and crucial to the success of the club:
Mal Heil Builders, Red Rooster, Keighran’s Milk Bar, Mallee Milk, Reg Wiseman Plumbing, Tripodi & Taverna, Lake Boga Hotel, Swan Hill City Taxi, Federal Hotel, Caltex, Quo Vadis, Swan Hill Club and Ron & Kay Dunstone.
From the Netball Department
What a great Presentation Night! Thanks to all of those people who worked hard to make it come together.
As predicted, lots of dancing, laughter and fun was had by all, not to mention the fabulous fashions! Congratulations to all the winners.
13’s – Best & Fairest: Samantha Taverna Runner Up: Caelah Seibert.
15’s- Best & Fairest: Courtney McAlister Runner Up: Demi Nonlan
17’s- Best & Fairest: Nichola Pye Runner Up: Teagan Pentland
C’s- Best & Fairest: Kaly Moore Runner Up: Michelle Taverna.

Lake Boga Football Netball Club 2008 Ball
Last Saturday night we had the big Magpie Ball at the Jockey Club. Firstly, a huge thanks to Wes, Mal, Kel, Sewelly, Quicky, Jenalle and others involved with the Social Committee for all their hard work to organize this night. It was a good turn up and everyone enjoyed rockin out to Melbourne band “Farren Jones’. Thanks also to Tony Symonds from Harvey Norman who very generously donated some great raffle prizes for the night .
Let’s clear up the predictions we made last week – Azza was a no show but would have been beaten by Rik Pumpa for worst outfit anyway (although he had some stiff competition from the Prawn, who I think borrowed the coaches black turtle neck). Bluey confirmed my worst dancer tip with his walking stick routine – closely followed by Mick Harrop, who managed to deck two girls on the dance floor (one of whom was his sister). And the ‘hardest partier’ – well let’s just say it was someone from 42 Coronation, but not one of the men I would have thought. Apparently Mr Harrison has brownie points saved up for years to come after his nursing efforts that night. Please check out other photos from the night here.

Mystery Bus Tour
A big well-done to the social crew on the successful Mystery Bus Trip, which was so well attended that 2 buses were needed! Fair effort that with a final figure of 79 having a fantastic night!!. Thanks also to Java Spice and the Fed in particular for their hospitality, with the latter kicking into lockdown after close!
The night took the route of Lake Boga Pub, Java Spice for a rippa banquet meal, Beverford Tavern, Nyah-West Pub and the Federal Hotel. Miss Taverna gave everyone a taste of what she sings to her Grade Preps, while poor old Quicky couldn’t shake the peg all night. Prawn showed he’s a better footballer than dancer, Chainsaw showed some acrobatics, while someone might have to remind Joey Murph which pubs we actually went to. Thanks to everyone for supporting the event, which we can all agree, was a huge success. See here for more photos.

New players and members welcome for 2008
The Lake Boga Football Netball Club is eagerly awaiting the return of footy / netball to old Boga town in 2008. With no water in the lake this summer, all attention has turned to returning Boga to its powerhouse status of recent years.
Whilst history suggests that 2007 was not an overly successful season, there were many positive signs, particularly in the second half of the season where many of the younger players showed sharp improvement. Dogged by a horrendous run of injury, the team will be looking forward to the full recovery of several key senior players missing in 2007, including town favorite Kyle Braun, Martin Gray and Ben Pumpa (all recovering from leg injuries). With the addition of numerous promising recruits, season 2008 is shaping to be one to remember.
New players, supporters and committee members are all welcome to join this great club. Please see the list of club contacts for further information or join the new ‘MagpieMail’ from this site. Those subscribed to ‘MagpieMail’ will receive up-to-date information regarding club functions, dates and announcements. Already the social club calendar is jammed packed full of functions and events for its members to enjoy!
Go the Pies in 08!
Lake Boga Football Netball Club goes online
The Lake Boga Football Netball Club is proud to launch their new website, which will provide an invaluable resource for its members, players, supporters and sponsors. Available features of the site include registration to receive ‘MagpieMail’, posting of training dates and times, social committee announcements, cub news, stacks of photos and more!!
The aim of the site is to provide constant updates to keep content fresh and useful. If any club member, coach or supporter wishes to post an item on the site, please contact Wes Pye through the club.
The club would like to express tremendous gratitude for the efforts of Michael Willson in designing and preparing the site. Michael has generated the site free of charge and was only too willing to help when discussions first commenced late in 2007. The former club premiership player has certainly proven that he is more than just a sneaky goal kicker. Thanks heaps Micka!
