Round 5 vs Lalbert
Last weekend saw Sunday football being run and won for the first time this year and it was good to see a healthy enough crowd down at Tyntynder. From a player’s perspective it is always good to have more support in the rooms and around the huddle, and the last 2 weeks have been good for this – so keep it up! This Saturday we welcome not only the Raiders, but the crew from (not so) Smart FM, who will be broadcasting the game live on 99.1FM. Good luck with the call fellas!
After the Koodrook game there is plenty happening on the social scene. The social club will be hosting a cocktail night here at the rooms following the awards and pizas. The theme is Mad Hatters, so be sure to slap something on your head and stick around for a good night. Also tonight is the Boga Deb Ball. The young girls and their partners have been training hard for weeks and we wish them all the best for their big night at the Town Hall.
Colts
The boys gave Mick’s heart a test with a bit of a rollercoaster game last week against the Eagles. Scores were even at ¼ time, we were up 21 points up at main break, the lead was cut back to 1 point at the last change, then the Pies got up by 21 points! Phew! Some of the younger blokes stood up on the day, such as Kiel Tripcony (Heil Builders) – who also played well in the twos, Kane Pentland (Keighran’s Milk Bar), Scott Harris (Wiseman’s Plumbing), Andrew Patterson (KFC), Carl Baber (Mallee Milk), Brendan Mathiske (Red Rooster), Andrew Brasser and Josh Cameron.
Reserves
The twos were also hot and cold – keeping Lalbert scoreless in the first and third quarters, but also blazing away for 1 goal 6 in the third term. Overall a good win with some good performances from Terry Dewhurst with a couple of goals, as well as young colts Kiel Tripcony and Jacob Fifita - the latter who seems to be loving playing two games every week! Awards went to Terry (Federal Hotel), Jacob (Tripodi & Taverna), Brett Davies (Swan Hill Club), Adam Kelly (Boga Pub) Snake Robertson (Caltex Card) and Justin Adams.
Seniors
Apart from a comfortable win – the best thing to some out of last week was the casualty list tilting slightly back in our favour. Narby, Xavier and Quicky all returned and got through unscathed and we look forward to the return of Orge, Matty, Sewelly and a couple of Lonergans in the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed also that young Gaddo is not a long term injury. Hope the Gadsden family has shares in crutches. As for the game last week, the boys copped a well earned bake at ½ time, before switching on to kick 8.3 to no score in the third term. Not a comprehensive victory, but it leaves us 3 and 2 nonetheless. Last mention also has to go to young Patto who – despite being beaten for height by a good foot – put in a solid debut. Also a mention because he has the biggest calves since Marty Gray. Seriously. Awards went to Tommy McLaughlin (Federal Hotel), Joel Heil (Caltex), big Murph (Quo Vadis), Xavier Kennedy (Swan Hill Club), Mr Harrison (Swan Hill Taxi), Swampy Collins (Boga Pub), Silly Willy (R&K Dunstone Fuel), Quicky and Clifford who kicked six (six straight he reckons……..).
Netball
Netball on a Sunday? Hmmm, not too sure about that. What about on Wednesday? Well our 13 and Under girls had to meet Lalbert on Wednesday down at the Allen Garden Reserve. They tried hard against strong opposition and even showed some netball brilliance at times.
13 and Under - Lake Boga 11 Lalbert 33 – O’Grady Engineering Glass award: Tyler ‘Pocket Rocket’ Slattery, Red Rooster award: Tennae ‘Quick feet’ Davies, Ladies Committee: Courtney ‘Energizer Bunny’ Rovere, Subway award: Renni ‘ The Dominator’ Cameron. Keep up the team effort girls.
Now we’re back to Sunday netball where the rest of our girls fought it out on the court against the Lalbert netballers. In the 15 and Under game our netballers came up against quality opposition but just couldn’t notch up another win. It was a terrible day for goalies which seemed to be the biggest challenge for our girls. Erin Scown was ‘Go-go Gadget’ in defense, taking intercepts at every opportunity while Demi Nolan moved well in ‘GA’ providing the team with a driving force. Keep working at it girls!
15 and Under - Lake Boga 16 Lalbert 41 – Harvey Norman Glass award: Demi Nolan, Top Knot Hair award: Emily Lambert, Red Rooster award: Dani Slattery, Subway award: Erin Scown.
Our 17 and Under girls need to be ‘Congratulated’ on a great team effort filled with determination and confidence. The saw the opportunity to play great netball and seized it. Well done girls, let’s do it again today so we can keep moving up that ladder.
17 and Under - Lake Boga 37 Lalbert 30 – Lateral Communications Glass award: Teagan Pentland, Top Knot Hair award: Lauren Schmidt, Red Rooster award: Heidi Kelly, Video Ezy award: Kelly Griffin.
In the club’s second win for the day, the C Graders continued to put their stamp on the competition. Coach Taverna was pleased with the team effort made by her girls, especially when she asked them to dig deep in the last quarter (which they did)and run over the Lalbert girls! Renee Smithers ran all day, with Kaly Moore showing how strong she is in the ring. Great team work girls, let’s keep it together.
C Grade - Lake Boga 38 Lalbert 26 – WET Technologies Glass award: Renee Smithers, WFI Mystery award: Michelle Taverna.
B Grade was a tough match for both sides. It was touch and go all the way but our netballers just couldn’t get over the line. Renne McCaig was strong across the court while Bonnie Spry and Steph Kennedy supported each other well in defense. Time to regroup today girls and settle back into that winning streak.
B Grade – Lake Boga 37 Lalbert 41 – Neville Pest Control Glass award: Renne McCaig, Evoke Hair Studio award: Steph Kennedy.
Last week was another disappointing game for our A Graders and they certainly didn’t deserve the end result. Let’s get out there and cheer them on today. I know you can do it girls, so get on that court and show everyone how good you really are.
A Grade - Lake Boga 24 Lalbert 38 – Fred and Gayle Glass award: Amy ‘Speed Racer’ McElgunn, LBFNC Sports Bar award: Tennille ‘have a drink on me’ Street.
Go Boga!
