Round 7 V’s Lietchville Gunbower
Colts: The colts are starting to gel together and Mick was more than happy with their team effort against the Bombers. There were signs of some smart football which shows the boys are definite top 5 contenders. Kane Pentland (Heil Builders) put in a great game, along with Chris Rovere (Keighran’s Milk Bar), Carl Baber (Wiseman’s Plumbing), Kane Davies (Mallee Milk), Ryan McCalister(Red Rooster) and Sam Griffiths – who leads the goal-kicking with 19 so far. Special mention to also to Daniel Haines (KFC) who played an outstanding game in the twos and Josh Cameron who had plenty of the Boga faithful excited with his silky display in the ones. The colts are sitting in 6th and have an ‘8 point game’ against the Kangas next week – don’t let it slip boys!
Reserves: Ah the one that got away! Old Gaddo’s boys did the hard work to come from 4 goals behind and when young Gaddo snagged two in the dying minutes, spirits were high. In a flash though, they went down by 5 points just seconds before the final siren. Nonetheless this was the best display by the reserves in a while. There is no doubt the boys are well coached and Gaddo’s master vision is starting to come together. Awards went to Terry Dewhurst (Federal Hotel), Jordy Burke (Tripodi & Taverna), Joel Murphy (Swan Hill Club), Snake Robertson (Boga Pub), Daniel Haines (Club Voucher), Shaun Demario (Caltex Star), Brett Davies and Jake Haeusler (who even kindly donated a goal to Mr Murphy – good boy).
Seniors: Got a few players back and also a couple of monkeys off the back – one being a good four quarters and the second actually holding on for once against Leitchville! Awards went to Azza Lonergan (Federal Hotel), Trent Collins (Caltex), Adam Quigley (Quo Vadis), Ciff Ryan (Swan Hill Club), Joel Heil (Swan Hill Taxi), Josh Cameron (Boga Pub), the Prawn Forsyth (R&K Dunstone Fuel) and Mr Harrison. An important game today – we are locked in with the Dogs, Bombers and Roos on the ladder, who all happen to play the three bottom sides today! Just another must win game hey?! On the stats side; Cliffy snagged 7 (straight if you don’t mind) to reach 30 for the year, which is 10 ahead of number 16. Is that one more for every year age difference?
Under 15s: Lost by 63. Kyal Evans snagged 5 goals and already has an impressive 34 for the season. Kyal was in the best along with Brodie Bennett, Lucas Taverna and Chris Kindred. The 15s are sitting just outside the 5 and play sixth today – good luck boys!
Under 13s: Awards last week went to Cody Mirtschin, Luke Morrison, Brandon Wood and Lachie Murley. The boys are yet to register a win, but Cohuna are in the same boat, so no doubt the boys will be pumped today!
Under 11’s: Put in a hard fought effort against the undefeated Bombers and by all reports there are some good signs of team football and a win may be not too far away. Good luck to all the young Maggies today!
Netball
In lovely weather and not so lovely flies, our netballers took on the Bombers at Leitchville. As a spectator it was not nice to be shooing the flies while trying to support our girls, so a big ‘Thanks’ to you for braving it! Thank god they stayed away from us on the court!
We celebrated 3 out of 6 wins, with our seniors taking all 3 ‘good’ wins. Way to go girls! A special mention goes to Courtney McAlsiter who sat on the bench for both 17 and Unders and A Grade. Even though she didn’t take the court, it’s great to see that our juniors are willing to improve their skills and seize any opportunity. On a serious note - let’s make sure that when we take the court in the black and white that we remember to accept every decision made by the umpires. We are very lucky to have them and they should always be treated with respect. One thing that we pride ourselves on at Boga is good sportsmanship and courtesy towards all players and umpires no matter what.
13 and Under - Lake Boga 15 Bombers 23 – O’Grady Engineering Glass award: Caelah Siebert, Subway: Samantha Taverna, Ladies Committee: Renni Cameron, Red Rooster: Courtney Rovere.
Our awards went to each end of the court with Caelah and Renni strong in defence and Courtney and Samantha working well in attack. Keep working hard girls, and you will be rewarded with another win soon!
15 and Under - Lake Boga 19 Bombers 37 – Harvey Norman Glass award: Dani Slattery, Top Knot Hair award: Demi Nolan , Red Rooster award: Courtney McAlister, Subway award: Emily Lambert. Every now and then we see some great netball from these girls – if only we could bottle it, and use it for a whole game! All I can say girls is that you need to keep at it and keep supporting each other. Surely another win is on its way!
17 and Under - Lake Boga 21 Bombers 47 – Lateral Communications Glass award: Tyneal Kelly, Top Knot Hair award: Teagan Pentland, Red Rooster award: Kelly Griffin, Video Ezy award: Chloe Reither. It was great to have all the girls back on the court after the Deb last week, but I think they needed to use some of their sleek and stylish moves that they have learnt out on the court! With moment s of brilliance, the girls tried hard against strong opposition but the Bombers were just too good. I know these girls have another win in them, come on girls let’s do it again!
C Grade - Lake Boga 51 Bombers 24 – WET Technologies Glass award: Jenna Taverna, WFI Mystery award: Jess Noonan. These girls continue to show their opposition that they will be tough final contenders. It was great to welcome back ‘Noons’ who has been out with a few injuries and to see both Nikki and Chivonne step up to B Grade to help out. What is really impressive about these girls is that their best quarter is becoming their last, when usually you’re tired and have run out of legs – but not these girls, they just keep stepping up. Great team work girls. Keep it up.
B Grade – Lake Boga 53 Bombers 23 – Neville Pest Control Glass award: Steph Kennedy, Evoke Hair Studio award: Felicity Till. It’s great to see these girls back on their winning way. With a few girls out, they supported each other and came out with a convincing win. Steph Kennedy was brilliabt in goals, while Felicity Till was all over them in defense. Way to go!
A Grade - Lake Boga 48 Bombers 32 – Fred and Gayle Glass award: Sandra Ewart, LBFNC Sports Bar award: Lisa Ryan and Amy McElgunn. Hooray! Finally our A Graders have notched up their second win. It was a rough and tumble game (just have a look at Streetie’s elbow!) and our girls looked strong and very determined form the first centre; they were not going to let this one get away! With Sandra pouncing on everything in defense and being supported well by Kiz the Bomber’s goalies had their work cut out. If you thought it was tough in the ring, just try and shake off the two centre court terriers in Lisa and Amy, who sank their teeth into every opportunity that came their way. With this kind of pressure across the court, all I can say is to other teams – watch out!
On a Social note – a ‘BIG’ Happy Birthday goes out to Judy Lonergan, who celebrated her double 25th! On behalf of everyone, we hope that you had a great birthday filled with lots of laughter and happiness, and that Downsy and the Boys spoilt you to death!
