Round 8 V's Cohuna

Plenty happening on and off the field last week. A big well-done to the social crew on the successful Mystery Bus Trip, which was so well attended that 2 buses were needed! Fair effort that. Thanks also to Java Spice and the Fed in particular for their hospitality. Miss Taverna gave everyone a taste of what she sings to her Grade Preps, while poor old Quicky couldn’t shake the peg all night. Prawn showed he’s a better footballer than dancer, Chainsaw showed some acrobatics, while someone might have to remind Joey Murph which pubs we actually went to. Tonight we are back to the Swan Hill Club and keep an ear out for details on next week’s Bonfire/ Barn Party night at Boga.

Big event on the calendar is the Boga Ball, coming up on the 5th July (after Woorinen game). The all inclusive ticket price includes drinks (beer, wine, softdrink), finger food, entertainment and door prizes. Tickets are available through Wes Pye and Nathan Quick or at LJ Hooker Swan Hill. All club members, senior and junior players, and their family and friends are urged to attend.  Get your social group organised now!

It can only be said the reserves got the shock of their life to run out and see the colts had gone down after leading comfortably at ¾ time. Mick’s boys were consistent for three quarters but had a snooze in the last – and it cost them. There are still good signs with the way these boys are playing and the next two weeks will be a real test. Awards last week went to Chris Rovere (Heil Builders), Scotty Harris (Keighran’s Milk Bar), Andrew Brasser with 4 goals (Wiseman’s Plumbing),  Darren Scown (KFC), Rhys Bull (Mallee Milk), Jake Haeusler (Red Rooster), Sam Griffiths, Toby O’Grady, Brendan Mathiske and Jacob Fifita.

With a strong breeze blowing, the twos had plenty of the play, but found it hard to score kicking to the bomb shelter end. They bounced back to kick 4 in the second term, but again could not register a major in the third. Some sloppy disposal and perhaps too much focus on a scrap and not the scoreboard saw us go down by less than a goal for the 2nd week in a row. Just like the colts – some good signs in the last couple of weeks, but 4 quarters are needed. Some good performances, including Scooter (in his 17th comeback match) with a Jonathan Brown-like pack mark and goal. Now if we could only get him to play an away game! Awards went to Shaun Demario (Federal Hotel), Ben Matthews (Tripodi & Taverna), Joel Murphy (Swan Hill Club), Brett Davies (Boga Pub), Ross Rohde (Caltex Star), Jordy Burke (Club Voucher) and Micka Brawn.

The seniors had a big first quarter – before the Kangas bounced back to give the boys a scare. Our boys were able to settle and get home by 18 points – much to the joy of Lehmo who won a hundred for the margin. You’ve never seen someone so happy to watch Wes Harrison wobble one through the points (from 20m dead in front) after the siren. Lehmo – you’re lucky it wasn’t someone who could kick! Awards went to Mr Harrison (Swan Hill Taxi), Wes Sewell (R&K Dunstone Fuel) who had a crack at goal of the year, Josh Jenkins with 3 goals on debut (Swan Hill Club), Clifford Ryan (Federal Hotel), Xavier Kennedy (Caltex), Azza Lonergan (Quo Vadis), Snake Robertson (Boga Pub), Brent Forsyth and Swampy Collins.
